2 Peter 2 said about false prophets and false teachers. And Peter groups them as people who always talk, preach in their greed and many people will listen to them. For a long time, i think that this passage talks about greedy people. Until God describe to me that this passage tells us about persons who always talks about blessings, and in this way, they make many stories that attracts people to follow them, and many people will follow this way, because they always told about blessings and they want to be blessed. Maybe this sentence will remind us.
Follow Jesus and you will be blessed…
For so many time, I maybe included in this group of people, until I know the truth, which set me free. This group of people will always talks something that satisfy the listener’s ears. It is not the blessings that wrong or people who say about blessings is wrong, but, nowadays, it becomes the-number-one preaching topic. That’s wrong!
Jesus never tells His disciples about blessings, He never say any promises about blessings, and if they follows Jesus they will be blessed. At the contrary, Jesus tells about suffering, anyone who follows Him must self denying and carry his cross. Matthew 16:24,
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to come with me, he must forget himself, carry his cross, and follow me.
Many other passages will reveal that Jesus never promises any blessings, because blessings is something that will follows when we do our job. That’s why, blessings must not be the main part, it is more appropriate to not tell about blessings, but teach about how we can functioning in our life. At this condition, the blessings will definitely follows us, that’s God’s promises.
